Hi fellow members,

More on the ITASA Conference.
Here is a great opportunity for us to meet and greet new friends from other
colleges, especially for those who may be considering alternative schools to
do their graduate studies. Your participation in this event is strongly
encouraged :-) Thank you.

--------------------------Information begins below this
line----------------------------

On behalf of Duke University's Taiwanese Students Association, we cordially
invite University of South Florida Taiwanese American Student Association to
attend ITASA East Coast Conference 2009 hosted at Duke University, in
Durham, North Carolina. The conferences (East and West Coasts, and Midwest)
are the most-attended ITASA events, typically with around three hundred
attendees. Past East Coast Conferences (ECC) have been hosted by Brown,
Columbia, Cornell, Harvard, NYU, Princeton, Rutgers, UPenn, and Yale.

All the necessary information concerning ITASA ECC 2009 is listed at: *
http://duke.itasa.org* <http://duke.itasa.org/>

In case you don't feel like leaving your browser/e-mail window, here's a
quick summary of the fun things we have lined up for this event (basically a
condensation of the schedule:
 )

REASONS TO GO
1) SPEAKERS. Karen Lin and Will Tiao representing possibly less traditional
career paths for Taiwanese Americans; they're living proof and inspiration
that you don't necessarily need to be pre-med/law to be successful. Randall
Schriver--foreign policy powerhouse to provide expertise and insight into
US-Taiwan relations.

2) WORKSHOPS. We've got topics that cover all different realms, presented by
people of all ages and masteries. Seriously, the range is so wide, I can't
even really generalize the workshops using one cohesive adjective. Again,
I'll have to redirect you to this site. Just click on the 'Workshop' links:

3) FUN THINGS. Ice breakers. Okay, so maybe they're kind of typically
begrudgingly attended, but what's more fun than an ice breaker with actual
[shaved] ice and bubble tea? ITASA ECC 2009 is also punctuated with other
social events, e.g. a 3-on-3 basketball tourney, KTV competition, movie,
banquet/after party. All in North Carolina's super sweet weather.

4) NETWORKING. This conference will be a valuable opportunity (buzz word #1)
to meet peers from all over the East coast. These could be lifetime
friendships, or weekend-long acquaintances who you never talk to again, but
can Facebook friend and stalk at your discretion and convenience. And to top
it all off, there's even a more 'formal' networking event, with companies
(buzz word #2) who may turn out to be your future employers. At the very
least, it can't hurt to practice schmoozing.

REGISTRATION AND TRAVEL
Early bird registration (which is SIGNIFICANTLY CHEAPER) ends 1/20/08!
Register now!

Get a group of friends together to register and decrease hotel expenses.
Ten people or more consists of a group.

To make travel to the conference as convenient and economical as possible,
we've set up buses traveling from several major cities to Durham; spots are
first come, first served. Aside from the obvious financial incentive, you'll
get a head-start on meeting new people, which will be less work on your part
when the icebreaking goes down. If interested, make sure to note it during
online registration.

Any questions can be directed either to me

or to anyone with a profile on that duke.itasa.org site, on the 'Contact'

Hope to see you come February.
