We have sort of a unique way of indexing articles from these genealogical journals. We
(through the help of a great volunteer) have created a large (over 23,000 names) database of
individuals who have lived in Hampton, NH over the past 370 years. Reunion is used as the
software to maintain the database, but the information is kept very basic so it will transfer
properly through gedcom. The gedcom is uploaded to Rootsweb's WorldConnect database
under the library's name. Whenever journal articles with information on local people are
published we extract the basic info (names, and dates of BMD) and add it to our database,
with notes as to what article it came from. We've had many people ask for information from
various journals because they see the citations on WorldConnect. You can access our
database from here:

Speaking from both sides of the desk, I am always very happy to see periodical
indices. We all kknow that there are little gold mines in them but may have
forgotten to bring a shovel to unearth them. Browsing the indices could be a
popular drawing card. It sounds like the Leesburg, FL Library has a firm handle
on the issue.
