I agree with Susan Scouras about scanners in the library. We do not
allow scanning by researchers, but we offer that as a library service.
We charge $25 per image for a high-resolution scan, which can be put on
a CD or sent via e-mail. We charge extra for any commercial use of an
image, an additional $25 - $200, depending on the specific use.
We do allow digital cameras, and researchers must sign a form to say
they will pay the regular fee as for Xerox copies, and they not be
publishing the images.

The policies, use agreements and fee structure for photographs and
audiovisual collections of the West Virginia State Archives/Archives and
History Library are posted on our Web site. Go to Sections 5.3, 7.2 and
7.3, then the links at the bottom of the page for the explanatory sheets
and forms: http://www.wvculture.org/history/rr.html
If you want control of your collections, #1 rule is to not allow any
kind of camera or scanning device in your library, or require specific
permissions to photograph or scan.

Hello,
I am looking for information on what other organizations are
doing to control their photograph collections. Right now we do not do
anything in place, so conceivably someone could come in scan them then
copy and sell them for personal profit.
I am curious to see what other institutions are doing regarding
reproduction agreements, fee structures, crediting etc.
Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks,
