[Genealib] Getting College Age Students Involved

there are several genealogy-related applications for Facebook.

search the "apps" by keywords genealogy...family...etc.

these work! i reconnected with a long lost cousin by posting my family tree using the Facebook apps, and it led to other great connections.

I also created a bunch of Facebook "groups" for the various surnames i am researching. The result is that people of that surname, or who have it in their lineage, ask to join my groups in large numbers. You can post genealogical discussion questions to these folks...old family recipes, stuff about the village they may have come from, conundrums involvinspecific names, etc....

the upshot is they start checking with their parents and grandparents to get the answers to my questions....so I am hopeful it is resulting in inter-generational discussions about family history.

you can also upload your old family photos to these groups. You can create family surname groups on Flickr, too.

<<Use Facebook. I am a genealogy major graduate, and my school tried to create a group like this. I find that if you use mediums that people are already using, it make outreach much easier. Do you want to make it a local group or are people in different parts of the country invited? I would be interested in joining such a group.>>

I am a library student that is interested in forming a group of college age individuals (age 20-35) that are interested in genealogy. The problem I am having is coming up with ideas on how to reach this age group. Does anyone have any ideas or successful programming that they would like to share? Thanks!
