Cataloger
The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution has an
immediate full-time opportunity for a Cataloger to provide cataloging
services and reference desk assistance in the DAR Library.
Duties and responsibilities include: Cataloging and classifying printed
& microfilm materials, examining books, file materials, pamphlets,
manuscripts, serials, and microforms for relevant classification,
bibliographic details and subject headings, entering the information on
the current computerized cataloging system, evaluating physical
condition of printed materials to determine conservation action, and
staffing the reference desk in the Library's Seimes Technology Center to
assist patrons with questions relating to the use of computers, computer
databases, microfilms and other materials in the collection.
Position Requirements:
* Master of Library Science required, with preferably one year
experience as a Cataloger in a library.
* Must have through knowledge of cataloging and classification
practices and standards including usage of MARC software.
* Knowledge of word processing applications with an emphasis on
library cataloging software is necessary as are excellent communication
skills and attention to detail and accuracy.
* Experience with cataloging of American historical materials,
ephemera, and manuscripts a plus.
* Coursework or demonstrated knowledge in American history and
genealogy is desirable.
* Experience with customer service in a library or similar setting
is required.
* Must be available to work Tuesday through Saturday work schedule
with Sundays and Mondays off. Very little overtime required.
