Some of you asked to be notified if and when the following book became
available again, so I'm sending this to the list. The book is:
Thörner, Udo. (2008)* Venne in America: the 19th century mass emigration to
America of tenants and small cottage farmers from a rural village in the
region of Osnabrück; the historical account of the emigration from a Lower
Saxony village in Germany to the Americas in the 19th century.* Osnabrück,
Germany: Arbeitskreis Familienforschung Osnabrück e.V.
Contents include the causes of emigration, the voyage, and the
settlement which includes headings for Pittsburgh and Allegheny City,
Pennsylvania; Buffalo, NY, Cincinnati, Ohio; "The Most Important Venne
Settlement in the Mid West: Sauers, Jackson County, Indiana"; Borchers; "The
Settlement at White Creek, Bartholomew County, Indiana"; "Sauers' Daughter
Congregations; "Indiana Settlement Area between Cincinnati and Sauers";
Holland, Indiana; Venedy; Richfield, Iowa; Holstein, Missouri; Black Swamp
of Ohio; St. Louis, Missouri; Kansas City.
The book also includes pages on "Adventurers, Successes and Failures";
"Statistical Surprises: A Hidden Story Behind Crude Numbers": and a list of
emigrants.
The first shipment received in Jackson County, Indiana, sold out rapidly and
many individuals as well as several libraries have been seeking copies. The
Hamilton County Genealogical Society in Cincinnati, Ohio, now has been named
to sell the books in the United States but I did not see it listed yet on
the website provided in the message below. Hope this helps ...
