Debra Spindle,
We do accept genealogical research for our manuscript collection. As more
and more book titles, census, etc., go online, we are looking for something
that will be a draw for the library in the future. As an archive to house
Ohio-related genealogical collections, this provides a service for Aunt
Fannie and others who do not want their 35-years of work pitched - and a
gold mine for those who find a family surname in a collection. Yes, those
photocopies are available from county histories, online newspapers, etc.,
but it took that researcher 35 years to collect the material and piece it
together in family groups.
Yes, at some point in the future, we may scan the collections and keep only
historically valuable documents - if space becomes an issue.
Of course, we are a research library of a genealogical society. Historical
societies (like your facility) and especially public libraries would have
very different viewpoints taking the path recommended by the previous
responders to your inquiry. Such material may not be appropriate for these
institutions.
Thanks.
