Our periodical use is up. I think that the reason is PERSI. We offer
patrons access to HeritageQuest Online at home with their library card.
People search it there and when they find a citation and click on the
periodical title, it brings us a list of known repositories, one of which is
this library. They then come to the library to search it.
Over the years, we have indexed both books and various periodicals in our
Family History Index and our Local History Index. These card catalogs are
now kept up to date in our online Genealogy and Local History Index (LAPL):
http://www.lapl.org/resources/indexes/local.html
We are in the processes of digitizing the card catalog entries here as well.
This in-house indexing has meant that there has been steady use of the
periodicals.
