[Genealib] researchers for hire lists?

We do not solicit researchers for hire, but will post online the name of
anyone who asks to be listed. When we receive complaints (which happens
very rarely) about a researcher, it is usually that the person did not
respond to an initial inquiry. We try to contact the person, and if we
reach them, verify that they still wish to be listed, and if so, update
their contact information, etc. If we do not get a response or find
that the address and phone number are no longer valid, we drop them. If
the person is coping with an illness, traveling for an extended period
of time, etc., we drop them from the list and add them back only when
they request it. Ask each researcher to identify the geographic areas
they will visit in person and any special research areas they cover.
This makes it easier for someone to readily identify the researchers
best fitting their needs.

Our researcher for hire list is posted at:
http://www.wvculture.org/history/researcherlist.html
with the following explanation:
The policy of Archives and History is not to conduct extensive
genealogical searches. Our function is to make West Virginia historical
data available for use in the Library at the Cultural Center. The best
way to investigate these resources is to visit the library.

If you are unable to come to Charleston, we suggest you contact people
who will perform genealogical searches for a fee. West Virginia Archives
and History does not endorse or recommend genealogical and historical
researchers, and are not responsible for their work. The following
individuals have submitted their names because they are available to
perform research. Each researcher will provide information on fees
individually when contacted. When you write to anyone on this list, it
is recommended you enclose a self-addressed stamped business-size
envelope (SASE) for a reply.

Subject: [Genealib] researchers for hire lists?

Due to budget cuts in FY10, we will be referring most of our off
site (phone, email, mail) genealogy patrons to researchers for hire. We
do this informally now with a few requests a month but will be doing
this daily after July. For those who provide lists, do you have any
policies or procedures to share?
	Thanks!
