[Genealib] ScanPr

We have had 7 ScanPro 1000s for a year and a half and they are excellent for scanning of all microforms, including microcard. Our patrons have taken to them readily and they are busy constantly. I just ordered three 2000s to add to our holdings. They are unequaled for ease of operation, versatility, image quality, and they are compact, and allow image manipulation on-screen and spot image clarification. Images are saved in most formats, can be emailed, printed, downloaded to usb drives. Our patrons now won't touch our ST Imagers that we have had for about 4 years.

In partial reply to that question, we have had such a situation for 70
years now. It is NOT worth the trouble. Unless you can get an outright
gift, you are generally going to run into trouble. Situations change
over periods of time, and what works fine when some people start it can
become a bone of contention over time. I know that this sounds really
bad, but I wish that I had not inherited such an agreement. It is a huge
time sink to make it work.

Just my humble opinion. I do have a sample deed of gift that I can send
to anyone who wants it, off-list.

Has anyone had any experience with the ScanPro 2000 by e-image data in
replacement of a microfilm/fiche reader?

We have four of them and are happy with them. We had old Minoltas that were constantly breaking down, so it is a relief to have something that we can rely on. And, no toner to spill all over the floor.

Our only drawback is that we do not have a printer that can do an entire page of newsprint yet. Still, whoever uses them, really likes them.

I am trying to find a short manuscript for a fellow librarian who is researching her genealogy, which is listed in the Institute of American Genealogy's library catalog book from 1939 (we found it using HeritageQuest's book search). The manuscript, entitled "Misc. notes on the family in N.C." by Joseph Wheeless is 8 pages long and is described on page 79 of the IAG book.

It is my understanding that the IAG is now defunct and has since donated its collection to another library. Does anyone know which library has the IAG collection? Or does anyone know another place to look for something like this? I have looked in WorldCat and have contacted regional libraries, to no avail. I am hoping that the IAG collection might include this document.

Thanks for any information you can provide!

The DAR Library has many manuscript files from the Institute of American
Genealogy (called the "Virkus Collection"). Much of this has been
cataloged, specifically the family histories (Part IV) and charts (Part V).
There are also many boxes of files of information submitted for a
never-published 8th volume of the Compendium of American Genealogy. Some of
these files are cataloged, I chip away at the others.
This sounds to me like it might have been part of the family histories
section, but I find nothing cataloged as such now. Please note that much of
the Virkus/IAG material was dispersed before coming to the DAR Library.
Hope this helps - feel free to write if I might be of more assistance.
