We purchased a Minolta MS-6000 Reader-Printer-Scanner in July of 2008. It was intended to replace the 15 year old Bell + Howell/ Minolta unit we were using. I must say, after considerable searching to find a new machine with scanning capabilities, I think we made a good choice. The machine can be used like a regular Reader-Printer which pleases the non-computer savvy crowd. The scanner inputs to a PC allowing you to save it, email it, copy to a flash drive, CD or floppy. This has been a money saver in the long run since we get many out-of-state inquires. I can email the information to our patrons whereby saving paper, postage and time. The price varies depending on the needs of your particular situation. Our machine cost about $10,000 and was purchased entirely with a state grant.
If you are interested in this machine and have questions about it, feel free to contact me off list.

Subject: [Genealib] microfilm reader-scanners?
Our old Minolta microfilm reader-printer is getting very old and cranky. We are considering upgrading to a microfilm reader-scanner-printer, which would allow our patrons to save their "printouts" to a disk or portable drive. (assuming we can obtain a grant to cover at least part of the costs, but that's another question)
How many of you have these? What brands are they, how reliable are they, and what did you pay for them.
Just doing a simple search leads me to understand that this equipment will run us at least $4000 to $5000 (and probably more, if we can get some of the bells and whistles)
