We charge a basic $10 for research. Mostly we get requests for obit searches. We will search for up to 5 for that fee. If they request more than that then we charge $1 per. We do not charge extra for copying fee. We probably spend about half hour on each one however we do a pretty indepth search and also try to find proof of where the deceased are buried. We do not at this time charge for ILL. We have charged a fee ever since I started here in 1994. The fee then was $2 which I immediately raised to $3. We changed to $10 about 5 years ago.

Although I asked this last year, in these changing times, I would like to know once again if anyone is charging for research in their "public library." Research can be defined as look-ups, obituaries, making photocopies and looking for names from books, etc. I would especially like to hear from Florida libraries, but will accept everyone's response.
Please tell me the fees, time willing to spend, and how many photocopies you provide.
Are you charging for interlibrary loans?
Did you recently make the decision to charge due to the economic downturn?
Thanks.
Pam
