Due to ever increasing staff shortages we cannot do anything more for
patrons other than quick look-ups and have to refer them to other
organizations if they want more than that. For ILLs we charge them the cost
of the postage one way and then the charges that the lending library charges
us, if they do. We ask the patrons first if they are willing to pay that and
only order the materials if they will.
We charge $5.00 for 1-3 obituaries included in the request plus $3.00 for
each additional name included in the request. That includes postage and
handling. We charge $5.00 for looking up one name in 1-5 years, with a
charge of $2.00 per additional year. All other requests cost $5.00 plus $.25
per page for copies. It has cut down on the "shopping lists" we used to be
sent.
Sincerely,
Dottie Demarest

Although I asked this last year, in these changing times, I would like to
know once again if anyone is charging for research in their "public
library." Research can be defined as look-ups, obituaries, making
photocopies and looking for names from books, etc. I would especially like
to hear from Florida libraries, but will accept everyone's response.
Please tell me the fees, time willing to spend, and how many photocopies you
provide.
Are you charging for interlibrary loans?
Did you recently make the decision to charge due to the economic downturn?
Thanks.
Pam
