I realize this source is 25 years later, but I checked the Alphabetical
index for occupations for the 15th (1930) Census of the United States
which lists all the occupations to be used in taking that census and
molder or moulder seems to be the closest.
There are molder's
or moulder's listed in 96 different industries from corset factory,
chocolate or cocoa factory, brake shoe factory, laundry, woodworking
factory, piano or organ factory, skein factory, sugar factory or refinery,
street railroad, etc.
Not sure it answers the question, but it
indicates it was a job title in many varied industries.
