Is there a possibility it was "Molder?"

An excerpt from The Changing Face of Inequality by Oliver Zunz (pg 421 -
1983 edition) states, "An example of the evolution of census data would be
the worker recorded as 'works in iron works' in 1880, becoming 'iron molder'
in 1900, and 'molder,' 'wage worker', in 'iron works' in 1920."
