[Genealib] Ancestry Question

The U.S. City Directories module is not available in Ancestry Library Edition. The Generations Network, parent company of Ancestry, obtained the city directories from multiple sources, including the Gale Cengage microfilm collection. Their distribution license with Gale is restricted to the consumer or private subscriber market, i.e., it does not include the library market.

The city directory listings can also be found by using the card catalog search feature, available in both Ancestry.com and Ancestry Library Edition. The card catalog in Ancestry.com is freely accessible from anywhere, while the card catalog in the Library Edition must be used from inside the subscribing institution.

Subject: RE: [Genealib] Ancestry Question

Ancestry.com has a U.S. City Directories module that is not available on Ancestry Library Edition. (One of a growing number of databases that the Library version lacks.) It includes Augusta, Georgia, 1882-1901, 1937-1946 (with a few missing years). You can see a list of available years at www.ancestry.com<http://www.ancestry.com> even if you are not a subscriber.

Subject: [Genealib] Ancestry Question
We have Ancestry Library Edition in our library. A patron in another state just told me that Ancestry has the city directories for Augusta, Georgia, online. I've tried to find them without any success but that certainly doesn't mean that they aren't there! Is it possible that it is only in the paid edition? Has anyone else found the city directories for Augusta in Ancestry? It would be so helpful to be able to offer this tool to our patrons. Right now they must look at the city directories on microfilm and our microfilm readers leave much to be desired. Thanks in advance.

Sincerely,
