Wanda;
I work for the Seattle Public Library and although we have several very active genealogy groups in the area we have also sponsored/hosted/run a genealogy study group based on the Ken Aitkin model. We usually run a 4 week course where we discuss 4 different case study articles and how to apply those methods to individual research. I limit the group to 8-10 which allows for a lively discussion where everyone can have their say. We've done this irregularly for 4 years. It has been very popular.

Subject: [Genealib] Public Library Sponsored Family History/Genealogy Study Groups/Clubs
Our local genealogy society is not very active. The group doesn't offer training/workshops for the public or during their meetings. Nor have they indicated an interest in partnering with the library to offer workshops.
I am interested in starting a library sponsored family history study group. Has anyone done anything similar? Has it been successful?
Thanks.
