[Genealib] Unaccompanied Minors

I just got power on after "Ike" came though ... 434 messages to wade though.

Quick response is that I suspect every library system has some different rules. Personally, I feel that patrons of a particular 'special collection/section' should have priority. However, we all know the Federal gov't has placed rules on the locals. We have had problems
in some areas of street people and students from nearby colleges taking up computer spaces.

A good Friends group may be able to get the library administration to change their policies - if, indeed, this is a policy.
It may be that the librarian is just not brave enough to 'strongly suggest' that kids use the general computers in other areas of the library.
But as an adult taxpayer and voter, make your voice heard with the library administration and the city council. Enough complaints long
enough, you'll probably get heard.

Are there any local history/genealogy rooms in public libraries that have limits on the number of teens and other unaccompanied minors using the room's computers when computers in other areas are clearly available? Genealogy patrons have complained about the number of kids using our special collection room (some don't want to see ANY kids when they come in there!), and the kids often have to be asked to be quiet or leave. The problem isn't one or two kids, but three and more. Kids are passing available computers outside the room and coming straight to the research area where we have signs that researchers have priority. If a genealogist needs a computer we ask if someone volunteers to give up their computer or we have to boot someone.
