[Genealib] Unaccompanied Minors

We have a genealogy room, but no computers in it. I could never justify
limiting the use of certain computers when they are always in such high
demand.

Everyone-genealogists, teens, adults-use the computers in the main
library for whatever purposes. Our databases are available on all of
these computers, plus the 8 computers that are "library resources only",
in other words, the library's webpage, online catalog, and databases,
plus the city's webpage.

Rowdy patrons are asked to leave, if their behavior doesn't improve
after being warned. Staff will take more decisive measures with repeat
offenders, if necessary.

Subject: [Genealib] Unaccompanied Minors

Are there any local history/genealogy rooms in public libraries that
have limits on the number of teens and other unaccompanied minors using
the room's computers when computers in other areas are clearly
available? Genealogy patrons have complained about the number of kids
using our special collection room (some don't want to see ANY kids when
they come in there!), and the kids often have to be asked to be quiet or
leave. The problem isn't one or two kids, but three and more. Kids are
passing available computers outside the room and coming straight to the
research area where we have signs that researchers have priority. If a
genealogist needs a computer we ask if someone volunteers to give up
their computer or we have to boot someone.
