We simply have the rule that our computers are for historical and
genealogical research only. That has worked well for us. We
have the computers facing so that the person at the desk can easily see
what people are doing and we ask them to go to another area in the library
if they are not using the computers for those purposes. We welcome
kids into our Heritage Room, and they have to follow the same behavioral
rules as the adults.
There is a library policy that children
under the age of 10 must be accompanied by a responsible adult everywhere
in the building. The young folks that we find are the most
problematic are the middle school aged kids who invade the library from
the school next door every afternoon during the week.
