National Regulations at least for the SAR , but as we know, some states bend the rules especailly if a young person has a livining father, grandfather, Uncle etc.? Proof are only proofs?... some remember are made hundreds of years after the original ancestor is dead.. Clearly there is a norm to the application process, but it is good to remember that the person applying is a persoin and as you point out have feelings that well intending DAR and SAR members ought not to offend.. Interesting, my mother, who was a CAR (Children of the American Revolution) was told that she would have to reprove?her CAR application to become a DAR; even though her mother, aunt, and grandmother had been members of the DAR and their membership numbers were on her application. She was upset about that and has not attempted to join since and at her age may never do so.
?
Does this vary by state or chapter?

I am a DAR member and have been Registrar
for my chapter, having helped oodles of ladies complete their
applications.? I have also attended a week long, intensive training
session at DAR on the requirements for completing applications and conduct
workshops on how to join DAR.
?
You do not have to re-prove generations
that have already been documented.? You can just refer to the DAR National
number of the person that you are related to and that will suffice for
documentation.? I
?
It is true that DAR will not accept SAR
applications as documentation.

Hi:
Actually DAR and SAR requirements are NOT THE SAME.? Often time in SAR you
are allowed to join on your Father or Grandfather?? but in DAR you
must re-prove each Step.. Record copies of SAR application that have been
approved are usually questioned and not accepted by the DAR? in these
later years.. It is still the wiser decision to contact the National
Organizations eac.. individually? www.SAR.ORG?
for the updated versions. Steve

SAR's requirements are the same as DAR except you only have to prove the
bloodline back to the patriot.

Wanda, I don't have handouts, but I normally refer potential members to
the local DAR chapter and give them the excellent DAR web site because
the Society has specific procedures and requirements for membership. I
haven't been asked about SAR membership yet.
