Subject: [Genealib] History of American genealogy

Dear all,

I wonder if anyone could help me. I am currently undertaking doctoral research into the history of genealogical research at Glasgow University. I am particularly interested in the history of American genealogical research and its links with British archives.

Can anyone recommend any sources where I can find out more about:

a) the history of American genealogical research in general
b) the history of Goodspeed publishing company
c) any Americans that have particularly contributed to British genealogical research

I would also be interested if anyone regularly directs patrons to British archives and/or if anyone knows of any local groups that organize trips to visit British archives

I would be grateful if you could reply off list to: hannahmlittle at googlemail.com

With many thanks in advance for your help and advice.
