I do about 30 of these a year, on site and off site. Because we have a
lot online for local research, the audiences usually ask for local to us
related materials to be shown. Others in our local genealogical
educator's group from the Rochester NY G.S., do various level programs
as well. The GEG has been a separate committee of the RGS for at least
15 years, and we all compare notes and share ideas.
But each of us operates individually. I am the only librarian in the
group. The library officially does not sponsor classes - we do these on
our own say so, after hours. When I said on site, that means I come in
on my own time to do so. And while I have handouts I vary them according
to the audience. I generally cover hub web sites, commercial databases,
locally relevant ones, and a few sentimental favorites. It's what sells
well here. The audiences usually run 25 to 45 per show.
