I was not able to make the link work, so I
went Googling. There is a good bit of
information at this address:
http://www.ilw.com/immigdaily/news/2008,0520-genealogy.shtm
What caught my eye was the fact that this
"enhanced" program for genealogists is priced
to be entirely funded (including the usual
overhead) by the fees we pay. This snippet
gives the fee scale:
"After considering the comments received on
the proposed rule, the
costs of providing this service, OMB
requirements, and the fees charged
for similar services, USCIS has decided to set
the search and document
reproduction fees for the Genealogy Program as
follows:
Index Search: $20.
Copy of Document from Microfilm: $20.
Copy of Textual File: $35."
It takes effect August 13, 2008.
