[Genealib] Beginning Genealogy Class

I call my beginner's class "Very Basic, Very Beginning Genealogy". It's not
real catchy, but it does explain what I cover-information for people who
know nothing about genealogy. Of course, I still end up with people who
have been doing it for years, but they can't complain that they weren't
warned.

HI Gail,
Good luck finding a good name. Sometimes simple is good like "How to trace
your family
history" or "Finding your Roots". I used to teach a class called "Discover
Your Irish Roots"
with a lot of beginning information thrown in.
Then when I went to library school, I put together an online genealogy
tutorial entitled
"Librarian's Guide to Helping Patrons with Genealogical Research". (That was
ten years ago,
and long names were in.) I have recently updated most of that site, and my
page on teaching
beginners' classes, with lots of tips, is located at:

I will be conducting a my first beginning genealogy class in the fall.
I am wondering what to call it. Beginning genalogy sounds so bland and
the rest of our library programs seem to have catchy names. I'm
wondering if I should call it something else, yet I don't want to
deceive anyone into thinking it is something it is not. For those of
you who already do this, do you call it beginning genealogy or some
other name?
Thanks,
