[Genealib] Using GRS Automated Archives, etc., CD-ROMs under Vista

Has anyone had any success getting ancient GRS Automated Archives CD-ROMs to run under Vista? We just received a new computer for the public to use, and we cannot afford Ancestry or HeritageQuest online subscriptions at this time, so our only access to regional census indices is through our CD-ROM collection.
I ran the install.exe on a GRS CD-ROM, brought up the command prompt, and tried to get into the program that way (the same way that we accessed it from the previous computer running XP Home Edition), but it didn't play nicely.
We also have some older Ancestry.com census CD-ROMs. I can install the Ancestry Viewer, see the title listed, but can't get it to do anything else.
If anyone knows of any work-arounds for these under Vista, I would be exceedingly grateful! Feel free to respond directly to me rather than to the list.
Thank you,
