My job description breaks down as:
patron inquiries-50 %
collection development-15 %
finding aids-5 %
planning-10 %
P R and brochures-5 %
Indexing books-15 %
In the last category, this is something I choose to do. We have many great sources in our collection that are not indexed so I developed a plan to index as many as I can and other staff members aid with this.
Also under collection development, we also have a county veterans series of books where we collect info on area veterans of various wars so we are "making our own local history". As my library director has told me many times you cannot always buy local history sometimes you have to make it.
