The preservation microfilming guidelines used by the United States Newspaper
Program (USNP) can be found at

collaboration involving the Library of Congress, the National Endowment for the
Humanities, the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin
Islands. The USNP Coordinator at the Library of Congress may also be able to

We are trying to microfilm our old copies of the Kings Mountain Herald and
have contacted a company. They have suggested that we use a overhead
non-destructive book scanner and from the digital images they would create the
microfilm using a 35 mm archive writer. Do you think this is what we should do
because I am unsure about this stuff? For duplicate copies do we want the diazo
or silver? Also, are there any technical specifications for the
microfilming? What image resolution do we need (dpi)? I would greatly appreciate any
information anyone can offer.
I will be out of the office until Monday morning, but I will appreciate any
help anyone can offer.
