Librarians Day 2008

Are you a librarian, information professional, or genealogical society volunteer who provides customer service to family history researchers and are thinking of attending the Federation of Genealogical Societies conference in Philadelphia? Then join many of your colleagues for FGS 2008 Librarians Day, sponsored by ProQuest.

Librarians Day will be held on Wednesday September 3, 2008 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. A separate registration form for this FREE day must be filled out at http://www.fgsconference.org/. Simply click on the Librarians Day link in the column on the left.

"Serving the 21st Century Genealogy Researcher: How Times Have Changed Our Service Model" is the topic of the day. The presenters and the topic promise to offer how the researcher and the information professional interaction has changed in these fast paced times of the 21st century. Nationally known librarian, Curt Witcher, Manager, Genealogy Center, Allen County Public Library (Fort Wayne, IN) will discuss "Past Perfect: The Best of Times for Serving Genealogists." A panel discussion with staff from the National Archives and Records Administration - Washington, DC and the Mid - Atlantic Region, The Free Library of Philadelphia, and The Historical Society of Pennsylvania will follow presenting viewpoints on serving the 21st century family history researcher and how they and their organizations are serving this population.

Lunch will be provided by ProQuest, sponsors of Librarians Day. Colleagues are great resources, and this lunch setting is a great opportunity to meet other service providers and network. Bill Forsyth, Director of Project Management, ProQuest, will be our luncheon speaker. This presentation offers new product information from ProQuest which is always very exciting to learn about.

After lunch, a behind the scenes tour of The Historical Society of Pennsylvania is offered. Most of us like to see how "other places" do things, so this is the perfect chance to do just that. The Exhibit Hall opens that same evening and is free. This is a way librarians can see and touch new books, talk with software vendors, and continue networking with vendors, family historians and fellow librarians.

Visit www.fgsconference.org to register for this informative, networking day. Of course we invite you to register for the entire conference, but you do not need to do so to attend Librarians' Day. The full conference program and other details are also on the website. Full conference registrations made by July 1 save $50.00. Visit the conference blog www.fgsconference.org/blog/ for more information, tips, special features, and updates.

See you Philadelphia!
