Hi Phyllis and all,
I remember the 1960 census. One of every ten familes got the extra
questions and my family was picked.
My dad had to fill out the papers. Perhaps they figured out give it to
the head of the household by then.
I wish I had a copy. I probably missed the 1950 census since I was born
in September of that year.
I may have missed the 1970 census too, as I was rooming from an old lady
in the neighborhood. I don't know
if she added my name, or if my parents did when I wasn't living at home.
By 2000, I had a printer and a scanner. So I scanned my census form
before sending it in so the family will not
have to wait 70 years to see a copy. I recommend this to everyone for
the 2010 census. Make a copy or scan
your form.

She told a story about stopping at one household to collect information. She said that whoever's name landed on a specific line (such as every 5th - though it might have been a different number). Anyway, extra questions were asked of that person. In this household it was a child whose name was on that line and the father was quite unhappy with the questions that she was asking in reference to the child.
