[Genealib] FamilySearch Center

Actually, many of the smallest Family History Centers will open by
appointment if you call and ask. We have one in Demopolis, Alabama that
is only open by appointment. In some areas, the Mormon church is so
small and members live so far apart, that there just isn't enough usage
to justify keeping regular hours. I will show people here at the
University library how to find the films they want. Usually, they
choose to go up to Tuscaloosa to order the films and use the FHC there.
I would, if they asked, order them and then open the Demopolis FHC for
them. I am the director for Demopolis - I am the only/everything family
history person at our small branch :-)

There is a Family History Center in Marion, but it is open only one day
a week! Clearly more access is needed.

This would be a big kudo for the library as I would suspect the nearest
access to these records would be from Fort Wayne or Indianapolis. It
would be a lot easier for people in central Indiana to get to Marion
Public Library.

I have been contacted by the Genealogical Society of Utah to have my
library become a FamilySearch Center, which would allow our patrons to
borrow microfilm from FamilySearch for a small fee. Has anyone else made
this agreement with them and if so, how is it working out? Thanks.
