[Genealib] FamilySearch Center

We at the Palos Verdes Library District in Rolling Hills Estates, CA
have been in this partnership for several years. Before we started, I
visited with the Director of one of the local LDS Family History Centers
about the clerical procedures they use for ordering, receiving, keeping
track of, etc. and this was very helpful in setting up our own
procedures. In the beginning, our patrons used the service heavily,
since we are open more hours and have more reader-printers than the
FHCs. However, in the last 2-3 years the usage is down as more and more
people are using online resources.

The Family History Library sends you their specific order slips, and we
require that patrons come in with the film number already at hand. (We
try not to have to look it up for them.) We phone in the orders once a
week, and talk to a real, live person! They are able to tell us
immediately if the desired reels are available or on back order, and
when sent, they usually arrive within a week after shipping. It is an
efficient system, and our patrons love it for those unique records that
are not available through Ancestry or Heritage Quest.

Subject: [Genealib] FamilySearch Center

I have been contacted by the Genealogical Society of Utah to have my
library become a FamilySearch Center, which would allow our patrons to
borrow microfilm from FamilySearch for a small fee. Has anyone else made
this agreement with them and if so, how is it working out? Thanks.
