Another issue to consider about weeding collections is what happens when a parton uses a book and comes back on a later date to use it again and its not there.

Thank you for your wisdom and the assortment of good and useful suggestions. Your comment about unique and unusual local materials is excellent. So is your advice about looking around for the presence and location of unusual resources or checking up on other libraries' holdings.
Dedicated researchers will make unusual junkets for something greatly desired. Thus far, just for this year, the researcher journeying the longest way to reach us put in 4100 miles, one way. The year is not over either.
