Katheryn is correct that the Midwest Genealogy Center has interfiled our reference and circulating genealogy collections. It is helpful to our patrons in that they don't have to look in two places. Many patrons were not aware of our circulating collection before so this had made them more visible. Consequently, the circ of these materials has increased. The books are designated with an "Available for Checkout" sticker.

Subject: Interfiling circulating copies with reference?

Our library is considering interfiling our circulating genealogy books with our genealogy reference books. I think that Mid-Continent Public Library (aka Mid-West Genealogy Center) in Missouri has done this. If any libraries have this kind of arrangement, could you let me know how successful or unsuccessful it has been? Has there been any confusion among patrons as to what they can check out and what they cannot? How do you designate that a book does or does not circulate (catalog record only, label on the book, etc.)? Thanks for any advice.
