[Genealib] Interfiling circulating copies with reference?

Our library is considering interfiling our circulating genealogy books
with our genealogy reference books. I think that Mid-Continent Public
Library (aka Mid-West Genealogy Center) in Missouri has done this. If
any libraries have this kind of arrangement, could you let me know how
successful or unsuccessful it has been? Has there been any confusion
among patrons as to what they can check out and what they cannot? How do
you designate that a book does or does not circulate (catalog record
only, label on the book, etc.)? Thanks for any advice.
