Hello!
It's called Change Ringing. I checked on First Search and there were
quite a few titles that looked like they might be helpful:
Change Ringing: The Art and Science of Change Ringing on Church and
Hand Bells by Wilfrid G. Wilson
Bell Ringing, Chimes, Carillons, Handballs: the World of the Bell and
the Ringers by John Michael Francis Camp
The History and Art of Change Ringing by Ernest Morris
Bell Ringing: the English Art of Change Ringing by R. J. Johnston
I Goggled "Change Ringing" and a whole bunch of sites popped up.
I learned about change ringing from a Dorothy Sayers mystery novel, The
Nine Tailors.
Hope this is helpful.
Have a Great Day!

Subject: [Genealib] Bell ringing?
Good morning.
This isn't exactly genealogy, but it's just the sort of thing
that one of us could have learned in the course of our searching.
I have a patron who has acquired a 150-year-old church bell. He
is now interested in learning about the different types of rings (peels)
and their meanings. How it would have been rung for different purposes,
such as weddings, funerals, etc.
I have searched online and have found some web sites what might
be able to help him. Most are based in the UK. While they don't have any
direct info on the site, they can surely help him if he contacts them.
I wanted to know if anyone here knows of any site that would
have information on their site. If it's out there, I didn't find it.
Thank you!
