It looks like it is Virginia. Searching some of those listed as birthplace "via" in 1850 - on the 1860 they show Virginia.

Subject: [Genealib] birthplace "via"
Hello,
Does anyone know what "via" in birthplace means on the 1850 census?
Thomas Johnson of Morgan county IN has this listed. After some searching on ancestry there is a large number of others throughout the country with this listed as their birthplace.
Thank You
