We are in the process of purging CD's that are available on the Internet and/or cannot be used on our computers. (Some are DOS programs.) One series I am a little bit perplexed about. It is an INCREDIBLE source for areas that are not generally covered.

It is the Vital Records Index of Western Europe: Alpine, Benelux, French, German, Italian and Spanish Regions. It uses the Family History Resource File Viewer 3.0.

The set claims to contain 12 ½ million birth christening and marriage records for the following countries: Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Netherlands, France, Baden, Bavaria, Hessen-Darmstadt, Lippe-Detmold, Oldenburg Prussia, Turingia, Wurtemberg, Italy and Spain.

I cannot locate the family names that I found on the CD's at FamilySearch.org. I do NOT plan to discard this set. I am confused as to why Family Search does not include it. I will need to make sure our patrons realize this.

Unless someone proves me wrong, I thought you may find this information important.

More details can be found here: http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Home/News/frameset_news.asp?PAGE=Press/2000-09-06_Western_Europe_VR.asp
