[Genealib] requesting help

Congratulations, Cheri, on your new building!

I would like to echo Craig's good advice. Write a collection
development policy that clearly outlines what you will include and what
you will not include. Sometimes the 'not include statement' can be just
as important. This is also a good place to outline future plans for
your new collection and its growth. And don't forget periodicals and
databases! These are a vital part of research these days.

Thanks,

Lynette

The first thing that you should do is create a strawman acquisitions
policy for the Genealogy Room.

You are going to want titles that are:

How-to

General Reference

Local History

Migration in (where did people come from)

Migration out (where did people go)

The Burpee seed catalog hardiness zone map will help you to
decide. There is one at http://www.burpee.com/ancillary/zonefinder.do

So your area in Kansas would be either zone 5 or zone 6.

We are building a new library in Andover, KS -we broke ground in August.
We will have a dedicated Genealogy Room, and I have an individual who
has stepped forward and offered to purchase books for research. I would
really like some guidance from the 'experts' who can share ideas for
titles to purchase. If you have suggestions, please email them to me.
Thank you so much for your time and help, Cheri Nienke
