 Hello All,
I'm contacting all of you to let you know about a great resource that
is being under-utilized, and is of interest to all of you who may have
early Ohio ancestors. This information is being offered only as an
opportunity to help with your research--I will not make one red cent
off this. The Ohio Soc of the Daughters of 1812 have a book out
called OHIO WAR OF 1812 SOLDIERS' FAMILY GROUPS. This book contains
information on nearly 1250 soldiers, representing 8157 families and
almost 19,000 individuals. The project was begun over 20 years ago,
was in limbo for many years, and now is finally in print. All members
of any Ohio chapter of NSUSD of 1812 were invited to submit
information on their 1812 ancestor, whether or not he was ever in
Ohio. Otherwise, the general public was invited to submit information
on any 1812 veteran who either served in Ohio, lived in Ohio at any
time, or passed away in Ohio. This project was widely advertised in
the late 1980s, and information was sent from all over the country.
Basic information is the name of the veteran and his military service,
but for most of them, much more information is included. This would
be what may be found on a typical family group sheet: the names of the
parents of the veteran, his dates of birth and death, places of birth
and death, date(s) and place(s) of marriage(s), name(s) of spouse(s),
dates and places of spouse(s) birth and death, parents of spouse(s),
names of cemeteries, names of children and spouses of children. The
name and address of the submitter is included, which MAY enable you to
make contact (keep in mind, some of this material is over 20 years old
so some have moved and, sadly, some of the submitters have since
passed away). It is every-name indexed as well, and contains a
bonanza of information. It is available for a DONATION of $25.00,
plus postage, and 100% of the money goes to the Ohio Soc. of NSUSD of
1812.

The group has not been able to advertise due to limited funds, so I
am trying to spread the word because I have a really big mouth and
this is a really good reference <g>. I know the lists have
prohibitions against sales/advertising, but this is in the spirit of
those who make a posting concerning a family Bible for sale on E-bay,
or some such thing. There will probably be someone who will roundly
castigate me for this, but so be it. And technically it is not for
sale, since a donation is requested <g>. If you don't need to add it
to your personal library, please check and make sure your local
chapter library, public library and/or archives has a copy so that
everyone can make use of it. At the very least, spread the word.

Direct your orders to Betty Graybill at Steelmanntg at yahoo.com or the
Ohio Society State President Jean Muetzel at sigmametz at aol.com.
