Usually old phone books are low cost and printed on acid paper. The paper
becomes brittle and is difficult to handle and tends to crumble.

Phone books of the era 1935 through 1945 would be an invaluable source of
genealogy material for persons interested in the WWII period.

There must be a collection somewhere with a person that can do lookups for a
modest fee.
