[Genealib] locking up the microform reader/printer lenses

Thanks for everyone's input on the Minolta microfilm printer lenses. I
think I will follow the advice of nearly everyone and leave one lens in
the machine but lock up (or at least put away) the extra. If someone
actually needs the higher magnification lens we will be there to help
them. We previously had lenses locked up but I always wondered if they
really were a high theft item or if we were being unnecessarily
cautious. It seems that accidental breakage is a larger threat.
Thanks much,
Elain

We have never had a theft. But because these lenses are costly and
somewhat fragile, we keep the extras in their boxes in a drawer and
have
signs that ask patrons to let us know if they need help and we will
remove and insert the other lense. This also keeps them fro
accidentally
getting knocked to the floor, etc. A number of years ago, we did have a

machine and lense damaged by someone who did not know what they were
doing trying to force a lens into the machine so it's just better to do

it ourselves.
