[Genealib] locking up the microform reader/printer lenses

At the Elisha D. Smith Public Library, Menasha WI, the lens must be
checked out from the reference desk because they did have one stolen.
We've had 6 machines with these removable lenses at Oshkosh Public
Library for years and have had no theft. I would not leave a lens which
was not currently in use just sitting there, however. Put one lens in
and have a sign saying "Ask staff for lens with greater magnification if
needed" or something similar.

Subject: [Genealib] locking up the microform reader/printer lenses

We have a new Minolta 6000 microfilm/microform reader/printer with 2
lenses of different magnifications. I know that these lenses are
expensive and we are debating wether or not to lock them up in a drawer
or something. Now, I don't like to lock things up because then they can
only be used with staff help but I also don't want to lose them. Has
anyone ever lost one of these lenses to theft?

Thanks,

Elaine Hayes
