The History Section's Genealogy and Local History Discussion Group
will be meeting at the American Library Association's Annual Meeting
in Washington, DC on Saturday morning, June 23rd from 10:30 a.m. to 12
noon. The discussion group will be held at the Renaissance Mayflower
(MAY) at 1127 Connecticut Avenue, NW. The topic for this year's
discussion is: Engaging Youth in Family History and Genealogy--A
Discussion of the Challenges, the Benefits, and Ideas for Future
Successes.
Stephen Young was kind enough to compile a complete list of History
Section activities. It is copied in the following. We hope to see you
in DC at one or more of the many fine meetings.

and Historical Research--HYATT--Burnham--(ACRL-AFAS)--Reginald
Washington, author and genealogy specialist at the National Archives
will conduct a workshop on the use of unique federal documents in
African American historical and genealogical research.

Monday, January 25
10:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.--What difference does it make what Congress
published? American history in the earliest congressional documents.
(RUSA HS)--MAY--Chinese Room--This will examine what Congress published
prior to the 15th Congress, the variability in the text of individual
surviving publications, the consequences for librarians and scholars,
and the implications for an understanding of the earliest American
history.
Tuesday, January 26

Note: The Genealogy Committee and History Section Dinners are open to
all interested ALA attendees and DC area history information
professionals.
Hunan Dynasty
It's near the Library and you can take Capital South metro to get there
by Metro. Their Group C dinner menu can be seen from their website but
offers Spring Rolls, Dumplings, Combination Seafood Soup, Peking Duck,
Sesame Chicken, Imperial Shrimp, Steamed Cod Fish with Ginger &
Scallions, Sweet & Sour Chicken, Double Cooked Pork, String Beans
Szechuan Style, Black Pepper Steak, California Roll, Cucumber Roll,
Avocado Roll, Fresh Fruit, Fortune Cookies. Served with water and tea.
All for $39 including tax and tip. (I'm sure we can share entrees to
decrease costs)
Burma
The Restaurant is within walking distance of the Convention Center, in
Chinatown. The nearest metros are Gallery Place-Chinatown (Red, Green
and Yellow lines) and Metro Center (Red, Blue and Orange lines). Dinner
$20/person includes appetizer, salad, noodles and entrée, soft drink or
tea for each person, and includes tax and tip. Extras would be after
dinner coffee and/or a dessert. Nor does this price include any
alcoholic beverage. Beer, wine or mixed drinks are available.
Appetizers
Sticks of lightly battered friend squash. (Vegan)
Potatoes wrapped in pastry fried into thin triangles. (Vegan)
Pork and cabbage wrapped in pastry fried into spring rolls.
Salads
Tender ginger roots tossed with shreds of cabbage, carrots, sesame
seeds,
peanuts and crispy onion. (Vegan)
Burmeses green tea mixed with sesame, onion, cabbage, tomatoes, in
garlic
oil. (Optional vegan)
Noodles
Noodles tossed in cabbage, onion, cilantro, hot pepper, and lemon
juice.
(optional vegan)
Thin bean thread noodles tossed in peanuts, sesame, garlic, onion and
lentils. (Optional vegan)
Entrees
Tender pieces of chicken breast steamed and served in sesame, garlic,
hot
pepper, soya sauce, cilantro, ginger and lemon juice.
Marinated chunks of pork slowly cooked in green mango and spices.
