Love the chart --- have printed it out for my teacher granddaughter ...
   I'd like to see the standard used .... husband on the left, rather than
the right .... so it stays as consistent with the norm as possible.  Whoever
thought this up really did a great service!

Regarding the non-traditional family in genealogy, there is a "family
orchard" chart which has room on one sheet for both the biological and
step-families:

One thing to keep in mind, also, is that the nuclear family isn't as
nuclear as it used to be.  Kids these days have to deal with
understanding how to record biological parents...step parents...second
and third marriages for parents and grandparents...

It's essential to be sensitive to the kids that don't have the
traditional family group to add to their charts.  We've had to try and
carefully help children who are adopted also.

I've found that teachers often think this is a great, easy thing for
their students to work on, and sometimes it's a bit trickier than they
realize.
