The 1890 NYC Police Census also includes part of the West Bronx.
According to the text on the back cover, it states that a few islands
are also included. If you look through the list of hospitals, you'll
find Randall's Island, Blackwell's Island, Ward's Island, and North
Brother Island. Wow! That last one is new to me. I must do some
research on that.

The library I work for has City Directories on microfilm for Brooklyn,
NY
from 1861 to 1910. City directories are arranged in alphabetical order
by
surname. If the patron knows the surname, I would be happy to look up
the
information for you.
The 1890 Police Census only covers Manhattan, it does not cover the
borough of Brooklyn.
Let me know if I can help.
