Assistant Archivist, Chester County Historical Society, West Chester, PA

Permanent, full-time position with benefits

 

The Assistant Archivist works at the Chester County Archives and Records Services, a county department administered by Chester County Historical

Society for the County of Chester.  The Archives is located in the Chester County Government Services Center.

 

Primary duties:

Assisting researchers in the Archives reading room with genealogical, legal,

and historical research.

Retrieving archival materials and monitoring their use by the public.

Answering research requests by mail, telephone, and email.

Assisting the Archivist with supervising volunteers and student workers.

Assisting in the creation of finding aids and processing of collections.

 

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree required, History or American Studies preferred.  Experience in an archives or library.  Experience in reference work

preferred.  Excellent inter-personal and communication skills.  Must enjoy working with the public.  Competency in word-processing, email, and database

software, with experience in Microsoft Access preferred.  Ability to handle multiple tasks.  Capable of lifting 40 lb. boxes.
