Thanks Honey. I had finally come across this information last night and
emailed it to my patron.

The Complete title is "The Georgia Commissary General's Record of
Families Supplied with Salt, 1862-1864." It has been awhile since I've
used it. As I recall, it lists names of people in Georgia Counties who
were eligible for rations (not just salt, but other staples, as well)
because the family breadwinner was currently serving or died in the
Civil War. The microfilm is of the original records, which are arranged
by county and has no index. The CD provides key word search. The
entries on the CD are all typed. No digital images of the original
records are on it. Our library has the CD and the microfilm.

Tracy,
We have a journal titled "Alabama and Georgia Queries"
out of Anniston, AL. In several issues are names on the
Salt List - no explanation of what it is. Your patron may write to MLH
Research 3916 Bramble Road, Anniston, AL
36201. We can copy pages for 25 cents per page which includes postage.

I had a call from a patron today looking for a way to borrow a
copy of the Cobb County, GA Salt Ration List. She says there is a copy
in the Georgia Archives but they want $30 up front to look in the folder
and she is not sure she can afford this. She has been told by other
researchers that this list is available in paper format and in CD
format. I have not found either by Google search or a search in OCLC.
Any suggestions?
