Two years ago, while taking a course at Samford, I was perusing the
library shelves (as usual.) I found on the bottom shelf in very poor
condition some books that Elizabeth Mills and others have referred to in
their lectures. This time I really sat and looked at them. It was NOT a
complete set. That day, I went online and purchased a complete set of 22
volumes for our library. Each volume had an index to the cases. Two
years later, there is now an accumulated index by Pat Rand, a volunteer
at our library. The index is available online at our web site. It is
hoped in the future, that there will be an every name index of every
volume.
"Decisions of the Department of the Interior: in cases of the United
States granting and governing pensions." United States. Department of
the Interior Washington: G.P.O., 1887-1930 - 22 Volumes
In addition, there is another index to rare Quaker books that we found
extremely interesting. It took almost a year to locate all six volumes.
They are very small books, but have a lot of information in them.
Another
volunteer, Aurie Morrison indexed these as well as numerous other
materials in our collection.
"The American annual monitor ... or, Obituary of the members of the
Society of Friends in America Index" Vol. 1-6 1857-1862 (See
description of sources on the title page.)
I do not know what we would have done without our wonderful volunteers.
Both indexes can be found at
http://www.rootsweb.com/~flindian/ircl/databases.htm If you would like
a
photocopy from either title, we will be happy to accept requests by
emailing us at cdavis at irclibrary.org or pcooper at irclibrary.org
By mail, the cost is $2 which includes postage and up to five copies. By

Enjoy!
