I remembered the one from the Shreveport Times and found it in my files. It was dated 1 October 1999. The obituary was for Minister O. C. Rollins. The others showing on the page were Doris Barfield Farmer, Rayford Martin, one person with the last name of Philpott, and another with the last name of Fair.

Ok. If you don't find one in the future let me know.
Actually NewsBank receives the feed for entire paper directly from the newspapers . for the papers included in these products. The entire paper is captured and then the obituaries are separated out for America's Obituaries etc. So, nothing should be "missing" . but snafus can happen and I'd like to track it down if you find one not included in the future.

Thanks for the offer, but I didn't keep track of the specific instances. As best I recall, one of them was from the Shreveport Times in 1999. When I didn't find the obituary in NewsBank, I went to the microfilm and found it.
I also seem to remember that at one time I couldn't find any obituaries in the Houston Chronicle. But that one isn't offered in our library's subscription to NewsBank anymore. That was a couple of years ago. Maybe they have them now.

The obituaries in America's GenealogyBank and America's Obituaries are updated daily.
Tell me the name of the person that you are looking for.

Tom,
I have a question for you...what sort of lag time is there between the time an obit is published in a newspaper and when it appears in the NewsBank obituaries?
We have access to NewsBank through NCLive. Just yesterday, I was looking for the obituary (which originally appeared in our local paper, the Rocky Mount Telegram) of one of our beloved local genealogists who passed away this past September. I tried multiple search strategies, including having another librarian search as well, but could not find it.
Can you please help me understand why it is not there? Thank you very much.

Hi Sharon.
They are full-text, in fact the exact text, directly from the newspapers
themselves. Most all of the newspapers are "exclusives" with NewsBank and
not available elsewhere. The coverage is so complete that they capture 80%
of all published obits each year for the last several years.
Does your library already subscribe?
